Davy Propper says he is "happy and excited" after completing his move to Brighton from PSV Eindhoven

Brighton have completed a club-record deal of more than £10m to sign midfielder Davy Propper from PSV Eindhoven.

The experienced 25-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the newly promoted south-coast club.

The deal beats the previous club-record of £6m paid for goalkeeper Matthew Ryan earlier this summer.

Propper is a Netherlands international with 189 Eredivisie appearances under his belt for two clubs, and becomes Brighton's eighth addition of the summer.

The Dutchman told Sky Sports News: "I'm very happy and excited about the beginning of the season.

"It's going to be hard but I think we will do well and see how it goes. I feel welcome here and they have helped me with that.

"I'm a box-to-box midfielder who can attack and defend, and I think my passing record is good."

Propper began his career at Vitesse Arnhem, where he scored 15 goals in 122 league games before a move to PSV in the summer of 2015, when he also made his Netherlands debut.

Propper established himself as first-choice in midfield for PSV, and scored a further 18 goals in 81 appearances in all competitions, and has since picked up a total of four caps for his country.

Manager Chris Hughton has so far signed goalkeeper Ryan from Valencia, Pascal Grosz and Markus Suttner from Ingolstadt, Chelsea's Izzy Brown on a season-long loan, Norwegian midfielder Mathias Normann and youngster Steven Alzate.

Speaking live to Jim White at the club's Lancing training ground, Brighton chief executive Paul Barber said ahead of the move: "We're working very hard and if it comes off it would be a club-record, for certain. If we can sign a player of that calibre we'll be delighted. But I can only confirm a transfer if you're wearing a yellow tie, not a blue one."

Sky Sports News is live at Brighton's training ground in Lancing throughout Monday ahead of the new season, when they face Manchester City in their opening Premier League game.
