Chelsea's David Luiz explains his unique free-kick technique and demonstrates how to create dip on set-pieces

Chelsea defender David Luiz has been sharing his secrets with us on how to take the perfect free-kick, so watch and learn…

The Brazil international is renowned as being one of the best set-piece exponents in the game, with Luiz employing a novel approach to the art of free-kick taking by striking the ball in a unique manner.

"I take a very straight run-up," said Luiz on the Premier League launch show.

"Some guys use the curve, but my ball is like when you play ping pong or table tennis. You touch the ball on the side to get top spin.

"So I take my distance always the same way, or it depends on the distance from the goal, and when I touch the ball I try to move my knee up quickly so the ball moves.

"You have to be on the same side that you want the ball to go. Some goalkeepers know me already, so I can change [my run-up]."
