Borussia Dortmund have extended the suspension of Ousmane Dembele "until further notice".

The Bundesliga side suspended the 20-year-old for missing training after they rejected an offer from Barcelona and Dortmund boss Peter Bosz had admitted he was unaware of Dembele's whereabouts on Thursday before the club later confirmed he remained in the German city.

The decision to extend the suspension was taken after a meeting on Saturday night between Bosz, chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke and sporting director Michael Zorc.

"Our focus now is on a concentrated preparation of the team for the Bundesliga opening match against Wolfsburg in the coming weekend," Zorc told Dortmund's website.

"Ousmane Dembele has the possibility to do individual training off the group."

Dembele will be expected to train on his own while the rest of the squad prepare for their first Bundesliga game of the season against Wolfsburg next Saturday.

Dortmund rejected a €100m (£90m) offer from Barcelona for Dembele in midweek and he was fined and suspended for missing training until after Saturday's German Cup game for the defending champions against Rielasingen.

Dembele believes he has a gentleman's agreement with Dortmund to join a club such as Barcelona but the German side deny such an agreement exists.

The France international is a target for the Catalans, along with Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho, as they aim to find a replacement for Neymar following his £200m move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Dembele joined Dortmund a little over 12 months ago from Rennes on a five-year contract and has attracted top European suitors after a breakout season at the Westfalenstadion.

He scored 10 times in 49 appearances in all competitions in the last campaign while he broke his duck for his country with the winner in the 3-2 friendly triumph over England in June in Paris.
