They now visit the Madejski Stadium and last season's beaten play-off finalists Reading, who are also looking for a first victory, with Jaap Stam's men having collected just a point so far.

"We will put our boots back on, get back to work and look to respond at Reading," boss Bruce told Aston Villa's website after their defeat. "Certainly we will try and improve.

"[Reading] had a good season last year. It will be a really tough game and we have to be ready for it."

Villa's conquerors Cardiff sit atop the Championship table, and they will host Sheffield United on Tuesday night as they look to maintain their 100 per cent record. Neil Warnock's side have scored four and are yet to concede so far.

Nottingham Forest also have two wins from two and will look to maintain their good start at Barnsley, who are without a point, while bottom club Burton face a tough trip to Middlesbrough.
