Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers delighted by Stuart Armstrong deal

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers says he is "absolutely delighted" midfielder Stuart Armstrong has signed a two-year deal.

Armstrong was inside the final 12 months of his previous Celtic deal but has now signed to stay at Parkhead until the summer of 2019.

Rodgers is pleased to see the Scotland midfielder's new deal confirmed and has no problems with it being only a one-year extension to his previous contract.

"It is what it is," The Northern Irishman said. "The club, player and representative have found agreement.

"For me I just wanted to ensure the player was happy and the club was happy and, if they both can find that, then I'm happy.

"He is a player I have admired a long time so to have him here for two years is great for us. It gives him a little bit of peace of mind and now he can focus on his football.
