Ross County have announced the sacking of manager Jim McIntyre.

The 45-year-old was named manager of the year just 18 months ago after leading the club to its first ever major trophy with their 2016 League Cup triumph.

But having taken just one win from his side's opening seven Premiership games - at Dundee on the opening day - chairman Roy MacGregor has decided enough is enough.

McIntyre's assistant Billy Dodds has also been dismissed, with the club's youth academy director Steven Ferguson, who only took up that role last week, stepping up to become caretaker manager.

A club statement read: "Ross County have today taken the decision to part company with Jim McIntyre and his assistant, Billy Dodds, with immediate effect.

McIntyre began his managerial career at Dunfermline 10 years ago, leading the Pars to the Premier League in 2011.

After leaving East End Park in 2012, he had a brief spell working at Bristol City under Derek McInnes before succeeding Allan Johnston at Queen of the South in 2013. He headed north to Dingwall in September 2014 after County had parted company with Derek Adams.

He had a win percentage of 36.50 with County, winning 50 of his 138 games in charge, drawing 33 and losing 55.
