Lyon defender Marcelo was shown red after accidentally flicking a yellow card out of the referee's hands.

The bizarre incident came five minutes into the second half, with Lyon leading Angers 3-1 in their Ligue 1 clash on Sunday.

Marcelo was initially shown a yellow card for a tough tackle just outside the area, and in showing his discontent at the booking, the Brazilian lifted his arm as he turned away to defend the free-kick.

However, in doing so, Marcelo inadvertently sent the yellow card flying into the air, and after an initial pause from the referee, the official reached for his red card!

Marcelo waved his arms in disbelief to insist the movement was not intended to knock away the yellow card, but the damage had already been done.

Angers fought back to draw 3-3 with Lyon a man down for the final 40 minutes.
