A Hull of a journey! The Tigers finally win away after more than a year

Hull City fans are celebrating this evening after the Tigers finally brought to an end an incredible 24-game run of league games away from home without a win.

The unwanted streak stretched way back to 20th August 2016 when City beat Swansea 2-0 at the Liberty Stadium.

The run came to an end this afternoon when a 77th minute Fraizer Campbell goal was enough to see off Yorkshire rivals Barnsley 1-0 at Oakwell.

During the run, the Tigers picked up just six points from an available 72, with fans travelling over 8000 miles following their team, the equivalent of two round trips home to Volgograd in Russia for Hull boss Leonid Slutsky!

Sky Bet, the EFL title sponsor, tracked down one of the fans who travelled to all 24 fixtures, Trevor Pearce, and as part of their Away Days campaign, have refunded him £818 to cover the cost of the coach journeys, pies, pints and programmes he bought.

Pearce said: "It's not always easy being a Hull City fan and despite some great wins at home and improving performance away we haven't been able to get over the line.

"I've been travelling to see Hull home and away since 1985 and this is the one of the longest runs we've ever gone on without a win on the road.

"We were so close against Norwich last weekend, so it feels fantastic to finally get three points on our travels against Barnsley."

The Away Days initiative aims to improve the experience of the game for thousands of EFL fans this season.

Sky Bet have also rewarded all 132 punters who backed Hull to beat Barnsley with a £24 free bet bonus (£1 for each of the games without a win) for keeping the faith despite the shocking run.

After today's game Hull have two home fixtures to give the fans a break before they travel to Sheffield United on November 4th, hoping they won't have to wait another 14 months before they win on the road this time around.
