Newcastle have rejected Brighton's bid for striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, according to Sky sources.
Sky Sports News understands the bid was £8m, but Newcastle do not want to sell to a relegation rival, and feel the Serbia international is worth significantly more.
In addition, manager Rafael Benitez does not want to sell any of his players unless he has a replacement lined up.
The Magpies had a club-record bid for Feyenoord striker Nicolai Jorgensen rejected on Tuesday night.
Mitrovic, 23, has been sidelined for over a month with a back injury and has not started a Premier League game this season.
Since joining Newcastle for £13m from Anderlecht in the summer of 2015, he has scored 14 league goals for the club across the Premier League and Sky Bet Championship.
West Brom are another Premier League club interested in Mitrovic. Sky Sports News understands Alan Pardew's side want to sign a striker in the January window, but any move is dependant on funds which would be raised from the potential sale of defender Jonny Evans.
