Russia international Ruslan Kambolov is under investigation for potential doping, the country's deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Mutko has revealed.

Mutko, who is overseeing the government's World Cup preparations, has informed state news agency Tass he has been made aware of FIFA investigating Rubin Kazan defender Kambolov.

The 28-year-old has featured twice for the national team, making his debut in 2015 and playing once again during a friendly with Chile in 2017.

Mutko, however, has stated the case is "not linked to the national team."

The deputy Prime Minister has also confirmed a FIFA investigation is to be conducted into Ivan Knyazev, a former defender for the Russian national U21 team.
