Newcastle's Jonjo Shelvey facing second scan on knee injury

Newcastle are waiting on a further scan on Jonjo Shelvey's knee after the midfielder was injured against Bournemouth on Saturday.

He collided with his own goalkeeper Martin Dubravka late in the game but managed to get through the 90 minutes.

The club confirmed on Tuesday that Shelvey, who is celebrating his 26th birthday, would need further assessment and another scan on his knee later in the week.

Shelvey missed a chance to score what could well have been a match-winning goal in the closing stages of the south coast stalemate.
