Sunderland are opening the doors of the Stadium of Light this weekend to give a warm space to homeless and vulnerable people.

Stadium of Light staff have created a special warm-room complete with places to sleep, along with hot food and hot drinks for those in need of shelter.

The club has confirmed the room is already open and will remain so until at least 9am on Monday, depending on any changes in the bitterly-cold weather that has hit the United Kingdom this week.

Pets are also welcome and Sunderland also confirmed the room will be manned throughout the weekend.

Anyone wishing to make use of the facility should go to Exit 2, which is in the south west corner of the Stadium of Light.

The club is also welcoming all donations of food or clothing which should be brought to the Stadium of Light reception - it will stay open until 5pm on Friday and be open again from 9am-5pm on Saturday and Sunday.
