Revista Predictor: There's a new challenger in the race for the pundits' prize

Revista Predictor

There's a new challenger in the race for the pundits' prize on the Revista Predictor after La Liga Matchday 28, David Garrido explains.

Kevin Keatings be afraid, be very afraid...they're hunting in packs...yes, we've got a title race on, and with 10 games to go it's all to play for.

MATCH 1 - ESPANYOL 2-1 REAL SOCIEDAD

Spot-on scorelines here for Rob Palmer and Jon Driscoll, although it didn't look likely when Willian Jose scored just before half-time on his first start back after injury.

And boy have La Real missed the Brazilian. That was his 12th league goal and 17th in all competitions this season.

However, Espanyol have been showing their character by scoring late and coming from behind - Leo Baptistao's volley with the equaliser, Gerard Moreno with the winner to take Quique Sanchez Flores' side into the safe sanctity of 12th place

For Eusebio's team, holding on to a lead has been a real problem in La Liga - they've lost 21 points from winning positions. They're 13th, probably safe, and are probably just running the season out.

MATCH 2 - ATLETICO MADRID 3-0 CELTA VIGO

Another exact result for Rob, while Jon and David Phillips pick up first goalscorer points for saying Antoine Griezmann would break the deadlock, which he did with his eighth goal in his last four La Liga games to take his season's tally to 16 in Spain's top division.

It was a cheeky bit of skill to find space and then postage stamp with the finish with his wrong foot. Griezmann turned provider next with a superb reverse-pass assist and Vitolo with a very deft finish, and then Angel Correa finished it off.

Atletico are firing on all cylinders at home - they've won their last seven at the Wanda Metropolitano in all competitions without conceding a single goal, but it makes no difference in the title race, because Barcelona's 2-0 victory at Malaga means they still lead by eight points.

Celta continue to be erratic, alternating defeats and victories, and they sit ninth, but Europa League football could be in reach if they can string a few decent results together. They have the talent in the squad to do so, no doubt.

MATCH 3 - LAS PALMAS 0-2 VILLARREAL

Another six points to Jon here for saying Carlos Bacca would open the scoring, and indeed they were the only points dished out because no-one backed an away victory.

Bacca in truth should have had a hat-trick moments after his goal, but it was left to Nicola Sansone to seal the win from the penalty spot. Villarreal get their first win in five and they stay in the Europa League places, one point behind Sevilla but only one ahead of little Girona who were 2-0 victors at home to Deportivo on Friday night.

They must be feeling the pressure, especially coach Javi Calleja despite the public vote of confidence from president Fernando Roig, because that was only their second win in nine in all competitions. Las Palmas' recent momentum is stunted slightly, but they have a huge game next weekend, away to Deportivo La Coruna, who are also in that bottom three.

For the first time in a while, Kevin Keatings' lead is down to single digits and Jon Driscoll has joined the party...
