Auxerre teammates sent off for fighting

Embarrassing scenes broke out in Auxerre's Ligue 2 game against Quevilly-Rouen, in scenes reminiscent of Kieron Dyer and Lee Bowyer's infamous on-field fight in 2005.

Trailing 3-1 in the second half, Pierre Polomat and Mickael Barreto began fighting each other and were then sent off, before Auxerre went on to lose 4-1.

Auxerre, who won Ligue 1 in 1995, are 11th in Ligue 2, while Quevilly-Rouen are lingering second bottom of the division.

"The club feels horrified and ashamed after the inadmissible behaviour of Pierre-Yves Polomat and Michael Barreto on the pitch at Quevilly-Rouen," a club statement read.

"The two players have made a mockery of the image of an institution that has made education and its youth academy priorities."
