Ivan Rakitic will undergo surgery on Wednesday night after suffering a fractured finger as Barcelona crashed out of the Champions League.
The Croatia international picked up the injury on his left-hand during Tuesday's 3-0 defeat to Roma at the Stadio Olimpico, with tests showing he fractured his metacarpal bone.
Barcelona will release a statement after the operation to offer an update on when the midfielder will return.
Rakitic played the full match in Rome as goals from Edin Dzeko, Danielle De Rossi - from the penalty spot - and Kostas Manolas put Roma through to the semi-finals on away goals, as the game ended 4-4 on aggregate.
Barcelona have failed to progress beyond the last eight of Europe's elite tournament in the last three years, after having claimed the trophy four times in the 10 years before that.
In the Spanish league, Barcelona are undefeated after 31 games and lead La Liga by 11 points with Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid trailing in second and third.
