West Brom caretaker boss Darren Moore has been named April's Premier League Manager of the Month - but says his only ambition was to 'stop the rot'

West Brom caretaker Darren Moore has been named April's Premier League Manager of the Month - just hours before the club were relegated.

Moore has guided West Brom to three wins and two draws in his five games in charge since Alan Pardew left by mutual consent early last month.

It proved too little too late, though, with Southampton's victory over Swansea on Wednesday night relegating the Baggies to the Sky Bet Championship.

Moore said he would not be watching the game as it was out of his control and revealed he will speak to the West Brom chairman and board of directors about his long-term future after their final game of the season against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

"The long-term ambition was certainly these six games I had in charge was just to get some performances and try and get some results to try and stop the rot," he said.

Moore called for "unity" when he accepted the request to temporarily step up from his role as first-team coach last month in what looked to be a damage-limitation mission.

The club were bottom of the Premier League on 20 points, 10 adrift of safety with six matches remaining.

Darren Moore's future at West Brom feels like a test case for the prospects of black managers.

But having lifted the Baggies off bottom, Moore has already won more points than Pardew managed in his 18 games in charge.

Last week, Moore refused to be drawn on whether he may be offered the job on a permanent basis, despite receiving the public backing of several first-team players.
