Celtic captain Scott Brown has been named player of the year for 2018 by the Scottish Football Writers Association.

Brown has helped Celtic win a seventh league title in a row as well as the Scottish League Cup this season, with the club able to win a second successive domestic treble if they beat Motherwell in the Scottish Cup final.

The 32-year-old has become the 11th Celtic player in 15 seasons to be awarded the player of the year title. On receiving his award, Brown said: "As long as I keep producing the statistics I'm hitting just now and maintain my energy levels in the off season then I'll go on as long as I can.

"When I first met Brendan Rodgers, I said I would manage two years maximum but he said if I got myself fit and looked after myself then we'd see how it went and he was right because I'm still pushing on.
