Stewart Donald in talks with EFL over proposed Sunderland takeover

Prospective Sunderland owner Stewart Donald is meeting with the English Football League to discuss his plans to buy the club.
Donald has a deal in place to take over ownership at Stadium of Light on behalf of an in international consortium, with current owner Ellis Short also at the meeting.
The EFL must make a final ratification of any proposed takeover, while Sky Sports News understands the EFL want more detail about Donald's business plan, after it was revealed he would sell National League side Eastleigh.
League rules prevent one person from holding a controlling interest in two different clubs.
Short announced an agreement had been reached for an international consortium, led by Donald, to take control at the League 1 side, after the Black Cats suffered back-to-back relegations.
The EFL began due diligence of the proposal earlier this month, with the vetting process believed to take longer due to overseas investors being involved.
Sunderland are without a manager after Chris Coleman was dismissed following his failure to preserve their Championship status.
Donald watched the club's final day home fixture over league champions Wolves, as their disastrous campaign ended on a winning note.
