Graham Potter confirms talks with Swansea about manager's job

during UEFA Europa League Round of 32 match between Arsenal and Ostersunds FK at the Emirates Stadium on February 22, 2018 in London, United Kingdom.

Ostersunds manager Graham Potter has confirmed he is in talks with Swansea about becoming their next manager.

Sky sources reported last week that the Englishman was the Swans' top choice to succeed Carlos Carvalhal and they wanted to appoint him last week.

But Ostersunds are mid-season in the Swedish top-flight Allsvenskan and beat BK Hacken over the weekend.

After a 2-0 victory put them sixth, Potter said: "I have to talk to them [Swansea] a little more.

"Obviously it's a big challenge to take the club back to the Premier League and give them an identity, so it's clear that it's interesting, but there's still a long way to go."

The 42-year-old has been of interest to a number of English clubs due to his success with the Swedish club over the last seven years.

His Ostersunds side won the Swedish Cup last season after successive promotions in 2012 and 2013 put them in the Swedish top flight - Allsvenskan - for the first time in their history.

His assistant manager Billy Reid actually turned down the chance to speak to Swansea about taking the helm there in 2010 while he was in charge at Hamilton Academical.

Swansea have been searching for a new manager after Carvalhal was not given the chance to continue, having taken over in December but failed to keep them in the Premier League.

Sky Sports News reported earlier this week that former Reading boss Jaap Stam has been under consideration as well as ex-Wales and Sunderland manager Chris Coleman.
