Latics boss lands teenage striker from Strasbourg

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has taken advantage of Strasbourg's problems by snapping up 19-year-old striker Nouha Dicko on a free transfer. The French forward is available for nothing after Strasbourg were forced to release all their players due to severe financial woes. Dicko is unlikely to be available for the Latics' opening day game with Norwich at the DW Stadium on Saturday as the paperwork has not yet been received from France. Martinez expressed his delight at the acquisition of Dicko, telling Sky Sports News: "He's a really exciting talent.

Talent

"He's a young man, and we want to develop him and try to fulfil his potential, which is huge. Those are the signings that are going to take the club forward. "It's unfortunate because you don't want to see football clubs going bankrupt but those situations happen. We were quickly aware of his talent and we are delighted that he's chosen us to develop his career." Martinez also revealed he hopes to bring in at least one or two more players ahead of the transfer deadline. "We cannot forget that we need to get another two players in that are ready to compete for places in the first team straight away and help us win games now." Dicko added: "I am so happy to join the club and to be given this chance. I need to keep working hard now and try and push for a regular place in the first-team squad."
