Kilmarnock manager Kenny Shiels has hailed the 'quality' of new signing Michael Nelson and believes he will be a great asset in the second half of the season.
The 31-year-old has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract at Rugby Park following at 12-month spell at League One outfit Scunthorpe.
The former Norwich defender has gone straight into the squad for Saturday's SPL game with Aberdeen at Pittodrie.
Killie boss Shiels was delighted to tie up a deal for Nelson, particularly as his injury-hit side is currently without eight first-team players.
"Michael is a commanding centre-half who has good guidance and leadership qualities," said the 55-year-old.
"We have been looking for more of that in defence, it is an important part of a team in the SPL.
"Michael led Norwich and Hartlepool to promotion and Bury to the play-off semi-finals.
"That is the quality we are needing to take into the second half of the season.
"He is getting to know everyone and he has been looking good in training in the last few days so I am confident that he will be a good addition."
Nelson's arrival completes a busy week on the transfer front for Killie, with Chelsea youngster Ben Gordon sealing a second loan deal and former striker Dean Shiels returning to the club from Doncaster.
Talks are also continuing with former Hibernian and Celtic striker Derek Riordan over a possible move to Rugby Park.
