Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has broken a bone in his right foot and is expected to be out of action for up to eight weeks.

The 25-year-old suffered the injury in training on Friday having only just returned to Melwood after flying out to New Jersey this week to see a specialist about his heel problem on the other foot.

Manager Brendan Rodgers said on Friday he hoped to have his captain available for Sunday's Premier League clash with Norwich, but Henderson is now likely to have minor surgery on Monday and will not return until November.

Writing on Twitter on Saturday, he said: "Very disappointed and frustrated with the injury setback but will work hard to be back as quickly as possible.

"Will be supporting the team in every way I can while I'm unable to play. Thanks for all of your support."

The England midfielder has missed three league games since injuring his heel in the Reds 1-0 win over Bournemouth on August 17.
