Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat has the full backing of his players, striker Steven Fletcher has insisted.

The struggling team from Wearside are bottom of the Premier League, without a victory from any of their first seven games of the season.

The Black Cats suffered their third successive defeat on Saturday - a 3-0 loss to Manchester United - and Advocaat has appeared beleaguered by his side's form.

But Fletcher said: "We do back him, not that he needs it. He is a very experienced manager. He knows what he is doing and I am sure we will get the result we need.

"The gaffer is working hard for us. He is the same, the way he always is. He is not going to change no matter what has gone on. He is a strong man as you can tell by looking at him.

"There is a great bunch of lads here so we will keep upbeat and hopefully the win will come sooner or later."

Sunderland face in-form West Ham in their next game at the Stadium of Light next Saturday, before a two-week break for internationals.

And midfielder Lee Cattermole said: "We have to move on and move on quick because the next six or seven games are massive."
