On this day 13 years ago, Wayne Rooney announced himself to the World by becoming Everton's youngest ever goalscorer

Today marks 13 years to the day since Manchester United and England captain Wayne Rooney burst onto the scene with his first goals in professional football.

With Everton leading 1-0 in a League Cup second round clash away to Wrexham, the fresh-faced 16-year-old came off the bench to replace Tomasz Radzinski.

He went on to make history, becoming Everton's youngest ever goalscorer with his first goal before sealing a memorable 3-0 win with his second a minute before time.

It proved to be the first of many. Rooney has since gone on to score 302 goals in 671 appearances for club and country, and has become England's all-time leading goalscorer.
