Marouane Fellaini turned out for the Manchester United U21 side on Monday night and was on target as they beat Liverpool 3-2 at Leigh Sports Village.

Fellaini also had a hand in the other two goals as United overcame a blunder from Sergio Romero, who played in goal.

Belgium international Fellaini has not featured much for the United senior side this season and was an unused substitute at Leicester on Saturday.

Given a chance to start for the U21 team, he was on target just after the half-hour mark, scoring from close range after getting on the end of a Josh Harrop cross.

And United doubled their advantage with 11 minutes left to play, Fellaini having a shot saved by Ryan Fulton, only for Nick Powell to tuck away the rebound.

However, Liverpool responded and pulled a goal back when Jerome Sinclair scored from close range with seven minutes left.

And they were level two minutes later, Madger Gomes shooting home after Argentina's World Cup final goalkeeper Romero had punched the ball straight to him.

But Liverpool were denied an unlikely draw in the final minute, Fellaini finding Sean Goss, who won the match with a beautiful curling shot.
