Sunderland defender Sebastian Coates has extended his loan at Sporting Lisbon until the end of the 2016-17 season.
The Uruguay international centre-back has been with the Primeira Liga club since January and made 13 appearances.
The 25-year-old has proven influential for the Portuguese club, who are two points behind leaders Benfica with one game to go.
Sporting confirmed: "We have reached agreement with Sunderland and Sebastian Coates to extend the loan until the end of season 2016-2017."
Coates made 19 appearances for Sunderland this season before his move, having joined on a permanent deal from Liverpool last summer.
He originally joined Sunderland on loan for the 2014-15 season, having joined Liverpool from Uruguayan side Nacional in 2011.
