Middlesbrough are closing in on a loan deal for Valencia striker Alvaro Negredo, according to Sky sources.

The Spain international has been made available by Valencia and is set to fly into Teesside for a medical later this week once a deal has been pushed through.

Talks are currently ongoing between the two clubs, with Boro hoping for a resolution before the weekend.

The 30-year-old former Manchester City striker is keen to try his luck again in England, and Middlesbrough are hoping he follows in the footsteps of compatriot Victor Valdes by signing on at The Riverside.

Negredo has scored 10 goals in 55 appearances for Valencia over the last two seasons.
