Troy Deeney is ready for an England call-up, says Walter Mazzarri, who is happy to advise Sam Allardyce should he call the Watford manager.

Watford have started the season well under Italian boss Mazzarri, winning two of their five Premier League matches so far, including a 3-1 victory over Manchester United last time out.

Deeney, who has scored two league goals in the campaign, has put his side's success down to Mazzarri's tough approach, and the former Inter Milan and Napoli manager believes the Watford captain's improved physicality means he now warrants international recognition.

"I would be proud and really happy if Deeney went to the national team," Mazzarri said. "He has improved physically and he is much fitter now.

"He is a strong striker, he just needs to look after his fitness, but of course he is international level."

Deeney put the victory over United down to Walter Mazzarri

Mazzarri will take his Watford side to Turf Moor to face Burnley, live on Monday Night Football, and while speaking through an interpreter he insisted he will lend his advice on Deeney to the Football Association if needed.

"I respect the England manager and his decision, and I am biased as he is one of my players," said Mazzarri.

Watford will be looking for their third straight league win against Sean Dyche's Burnley.

"I have big respect for Burnley and they're a strong team," Mazzarri added. "It's a different type of game and not necessarily an easier game. We have big respect for Burnley and the way they play.

"They won against Liverpool and that shows they are strong. That's what we need to reflect on and that they won against a big team like Liverpool. It's a difficult away game and not an easy away match."
