Craig Shakespeare says winning without playing well is sign of Leicester confidence

Leicester manager Craig Shakespeare says it is a sign of confidence that his side won without being at their best against Sunderland.

Leicester consigned relegation-threatened Sunderland to another defeat thanks to goals from Islam Slimani and Jamie Vardy in the second half.

It wasn't Leicester's prettiest performance, but their sixth straight win under Shakespeare shows the belief at the cub at present, says the man in charge.

He told Sky Sports: "Obviously the three points was massively important. I thought in the first half the game had no rhythm to it, a lot of stop-starts, corners, free-kicks, we weren't' at our best tonight, but the most important thing is the win and the three points.

"It's a sign of confidence in the team, but we know we have to play better than that. But it's important we got the three points tonight.

"We knew tonight we weren't quite at our best tonight, but we had that resilience from last season to keep going.

Asked about substitutes Slimani and Marc Albrighton, who both had a huge impact on the game, Shakespeare said: "I think you always try to make subs for the right reason, and you always wish they make the right impact, thankfully tonight they did.

Live Nissan Super Sunday

Leicester play their biggest match of the season next Wednesday, their Champions League quarter-final first leg against Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon, but Shakespeare says they are only focused on the trip to Everton on Nissan Super Sunday.

"There's been no talk of it, and as a group we've not wanted to talk about it, but as a group, Everton are next up."
