Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says he has no regrets after the 0-0 draw with Manchester United

Pep Guardiola hailed Manchester City's performance despite their inability to dispatch 10-man Manchester United.

City were the better team for large parts of the 174th Manchester derby but failed to convert their dominance into victory, even after United saw Marouane Fellaini sent off in the 84th minute.

Sergio Aguero came closest to deciding the game, striking the post early on and blazing a glorious chance over, after the returning Gabriel Jesus had a goal ruled out for offside in stoppage time.

But, despite this, Guardiola could not fault his team's approach against a resilient United side who stretched their unbeaten league run to 24 games.

"We tried and played like wanted to," the City boss told Sky Sports.

"We conceded few chances knowing they are so dangerous on the counter with attacking runs behind.

"We controlled that and created enough chances to win, they have two.

"They are 24 games without defeat so it's not easy to play against United but we did absolutely everything to win. When that happens you can have no regrets."

Thierry Henry believes Claudio Bravo will be leaving Manchester City this summer, but what do Frank Lampard and Gary Neville think?

Asked if the draw typified City's campaign, which has seen them not finish their chances, Guardiola added: "Yes, next season we will be better."

Jesus' timely return to the first-team fold - his first appearance since February 13 - provided a late positive on a night which ultimately ended in frustration for City.

And Guardiola was left wondering what might have had been had the January arrival joined City at the start of the campaign and not missed almost three months through injury.

"We are so happy [Jesus is back]," Guardiola added. "He has a special talent.

"He created two chances against Tottenham in his first game and did the game today.

"It was a pity he moved beyond the last defender but I will always think what would have happened if Gabriel Jesus would have been with us all season.

"We did not buy another striker because he could not come before January, so we missed four or five months without him. His impact was amazing with the team and everybody.

"With him and Sergio I'm pretty sure the chances we had would have been a little bit different. But it is what it is."
