Jonathan Walters failed to secure a deadline-day tansfer after Stoke's move for Mile Jedinak came to nothing.

Leicester joined Norwich in a deadline-day race for the forward, who handed in a transfer request earlier in the week.

But Stoke were not prepared to sanction the sale of the Republic of Ireland international without bringing in another body in the shape of Crystal Palace's Jedinak.

The midfielder was given permission to speak to Stoke, but personal terms could not be agreed and both Jedinak and Walters stay where they are.

Stoke boss Mark Hughes has consistently called on Walters to stay and said at the weekend: "He knows my feelings - we want him to stay.

"Norwich did make a bid but it was nowhere near our valuation of what Jon gives us, so that was sent back very, very quickly."
