Ander Herrera has stated that a club of Manchester United's stature should be challenging for silverware on all fronts.

But the Spanish midfielder added that an FA Cup final win on Saturday against Crystal Palace would somewhat raise spirits at the club after a mixed 2015/16 season.

Louis van Gaal's team missed out on a top-four Premier League position by finishing fifth, with only goal difference separating them from rivals Manchester City.

And United have not won any silverware since Sir Alex Ferguson's reign, although Herrera is keen to see that fact change, starting with Saturday's FA Cup decider.

"We are Manchester United and we have to fight for everything," said the 26-year-old. "That starts with the FA Cup now.

"As players at a big club, we have to look for success and we have to be demanding of ourselves and with the club."

Van Gaal's future at the club is considered to be in some doubt, United having been knocked out at the group stages of the Champions League earlier this term before failing to qualify for next season's tournament.

"We have to be realistic," said Herrera. "United should be fighting for every title. We didn't do that with the Champions League, we didn't do that with the Premier League.

"So, we have two options. Firstly, feel sorry for ourselves or, secondly, get this trophy for the fans, for our club and for ourselves."
