Franz Beckenbauer thinks BastianSchweinsteiger can rediscover his best form for Germany at Euro 2016 because he is away from the "problems" at Manchester United.

Schweinsteiger, who moved to Old Trafford last summer from Bayern Munich, missed United's run-in to the season after sustaining a knee injury in the build-up to England's friendly with Germany in March.

The 31-year-old missed United's last 11 games of the season and during that time the club won a 12th FA Cup, sacked Louis van Gaal as manager and appointed Jose Mourinho to replace the outgoing Dutchman.

Despite his injury lay-off, Schweinsteiger has been included in Germany's Euro 2016 squad by Joachim Low and he made his return in Germany's 2-0 friendly win over Hungary on Saturday, coming on for the final 22 minutes.

And Beckenbauer admitted he was surprised by the midfielder's contribution, putting it down to the fact he was away from Old Trafford.

"Bastian has surprised me," Beckenbauer told Bild.

"He was stronger than expected in his 24 minutes against Hungary. He showed great joy of playing and also spiritual motivation.

"We all know how strong his will can be. We all remember his bloody face in the last minutes of World Cup final. This we will see again.

"Why? Because he is away from the problems at Manchester. I guess he is feeling really comfortable in the Germany squad."
