Alvaro Morata's agent has confirmed Manchester United have made a "very important offer" to try and buy his player from Real Madrid.
United have been in talks with Real over the Spain striker for several weeks and Sky in Italy reported last week they had seen a £52.4m offer rejected.
Madrid are understood to be holding out for close to £78m for Morata, who was bought back from Juventus last summer, but Sky Sports News HQ understands they are increasingly confident of landing the forward.
Morata's representative Juanma Lopez also revealed that Real have rejected an offer from AC Milan.
Speaking to Italian online publication Calciomercato, he said of United: "It's a club with a lot charm - a very interesting option.
"I can say that there's a very important offer and the decision now rests with Real. I cannot tell (if an agreement is close). We'll see.
"I can confirm there had been regular contact (with Milan) until a few days ago. Quite simply, Real Madrid considered the offer from the Rossoneri unsatisfactory."
Morata has emerged as United's first-choice target for a new forward after their pursuit of Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid ended, following the upholding of the Spanish club's transfer ban this summer.

Morata scored 20 goals in all competitions for Real last season, after returning from a spell at Juventus via Real's buy-back option in the original 2014 deal.
If Manchester United fail to agree a deal for Morata, Sky in Italy understands they will try to sign Andrea Belotti from Torino, who has an £87.3m release clause in his contract.
