Scott McTominay is hoping to emulate Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard by securing a regular place in the Manchester United side.
The midfielder has come through the ranks at United - having first impressed at their development centre in Preston - and in May he made his first-team debut at the age of 20.
That appearance off the bench at Arsenal was followed by a start in the home win against Crystal Palace in the final match of the Premier League last season, before McTominay was selected by Jose Mourinho for their pre-season tour of the United States.
A substitute appearance against Real Madrid and a first senior United goal against Valerenga showed his potential and he could feature in the Sky Live clash against Burton in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
"It's crazy when you think back all those years to when you're five years old going to the development centre, and then going all the way through the ranks," said McTominay.
"It honestly is a dream come true for me to be playing in the first team, and playing against teams like Real Madrid.
"But obviously you just want more and more of that and that is the main thing for my career: to be playing in big games, in competitive games and just do my best and hopefully see where it takes me."
McTominay had to wait for his opportunity to impress as his physical development continued and having been just 5ft 6ins two-and-a-half years ago, he is now an imposing 6' 4".
That development has seen him come into contention for the first-team squad and the 20-year-old, who is eligible for international duty for England and Scotland, has praised Mourinho's patience.
Other clubs are understood to have been interested in taking McTominay on loan over the summer, but he opted instead to remain at Old Trafford to work under Mourinho.
"Things he does say stay between me and the manager but a lot of it is help and advice, really," he added.
"It's all like when we go out on the pitch, what I can do better, things that I can improve on and he is brilliant for that with young players.
"He's top - he's perfect for a manager and that's why he is manager of Man Utd. He's a really good guy."
