Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Brazil midfielder completed a medical on Monday and is now set to become Jose Mourinho's first signing of the summer for a fee reported to be in excess of £50m.

"Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached an agreement with Shakhtar Donetsk for the transfer of Frederico Rodrigues de Paula Santos (Fred)," the club said in a statement on their website.

Fred played in Brazil's 2-0 friendly win over Croatia at Anfield on Sunday but remained coy about his future when questioned by Brazilian media after the game.

Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred, a transfer target for Manchester United, has been likened to Man City's Fernandinho.

The 25-year-old, who joined Shakhtar from Internacional in 2013, has been named in Brazil's World Cup squad for the tournament in Russia.
