Grayson takes on Asa

Blackpool have appointed Asa Hartford as the club's new first team coach.

Blackpool caretaker manager Simon Grayson has appointed former West Bromwich Albion, Nottingham Forest and Manchester City midfielder Asa Hartford as his new first team coach.

Hartford succeeds Andy Welsh in the role with the Bloomfield Road club, with Welsh leaving The Seasiders for a full-time coaching role with Premiership giants Manchester United.

Hartford's last coaching role was reserve team manager with Manchester City before he parted ways with the Eastlands outfit back in May.

The 55-year-old had previous spells in management with Stockport County and Shrewsbury Town before returning to the backroom staff at City in the mid-1990s.

He is expected to begin his new role with Blackpool on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Blackburn Rovers midfielder Gary Harkins has decided not to extend his loan with The Seasiders and has returned to Ewood Park.
