Sergio Romero says he is fulfilling a dream by playing for Manchester United and will fight to keep his starting place.
The 28-year-old Argentina international joined on a free transfer in the summer and has started all six of United's matches this season in the absence of David de Gea.
De Gea was expected to join Real Madrid but the deal fell through at the 11th hour after the relevant paperwork was not completed, leaving manager Louis van Gaal with the Spain international, Victor Valdes and Romero at his disposal.
Romero has already kept four clean sheets but was heavily criticised for his performance in the 2-1 defeat at Swansea City prior to the international break.
With De Gea expected to be reintegrated into the United first-team, Romero is facing a battle to keep hold of the No 1 jersey.
But the former Sampdoria 'keeper insists the support shown by Van Gaal has given him the confidence and determination to fight for his place.
"Playing for United is a dream and if God helps me this dream will never end," Romero told Argentine newspaper La Nacion.
"As I have been saying, I have to thank Van Gaal for trusting me. Although I had not done a pre-season, I started playing for the biggest club in the world.
"It's important for a goalkeeper to have this support because there is no rotation between goalkeepers -- a goalkeeper starts or he is benched. They are the only two choices - there is not a third one."
He added: "Let me tell you, I don't think that the goalkeeper spot in United is already mine. I do know that I have a huge support from Van Gaal and his staff."
United resume their Premier League campaign live on Saturday Night Football against Liverpool at Old Trafford.
