However with another season remaining on his playing contract with Montreal Impact in the MLS, the Stamford Bridge hierarchy have stressed that such a scenario is currently out of the question.

Hiddink, whose appointment for a second spell as manager was confirmed on Saturday just before kick-off, believes the club need more people with his 'heart' as they rebuild following a poor start to the season and the departure of Jose Mourinho.

"We would like to get him involved," Hiddink told Fox Sports of Drogba.

"But he still has a contract with Montreal in the MLS, even though it is the close season for them now. We want to get important players involved with the club they care about. Drogba's heart is with Chelsea."
