John Terry says he does not plan to follow former Chelsea team-mate Frank Lampard into retirement anytime soon, and hopes to play for a "couple more years".
Lampard, 38, called time on his career on Thursday, with Terry labelling him Chelsea's greatest-ever player.
Terry is two years younger than Lampard, and has told Soccer AM's Tubes that he plans to keep playing, even though he has found first-team action hard to come by this season.
"It's been ok for me. I am Chelsea through and through," he said. "As a player you have to adapt and adjust as you get older. Realistically can I play every week?
"I am in great condition and feeling great but the boys that are playing at the minute have been unbelievable so as a player you have to accept that. And more importantly the team is top of the league and flying, so as a fan, let alone as a player, I am delighted at the moment.
"For a lot of people that's hard to get their head round but the age I am at, you have to accept and understand you are getting older.
"I still feel I have a few years left me. I am hoping that's at Chelsea but we will see. I am doing my coaching badge at the minute so I am progressing slowly but surely with that."
Asked about what the future might hold for him when he does retire, Terry said: "I would like to manage at some point and test myself again.
"I have achieved what I have achieved as a footballer but I think all the managers I have had I have learnt a bit of good from all of them and some bad from all of them. I would like to put that into practice and give it a go somewhere.
"Whether that right opportunity comes up for me and my family we will have to wait and see, but I feel I can play for a couple more years at least."
The defender is unlikely to start on Saturday as Chelsea host Arsenal, live on Sky Sports.
But he thinks it is an opportunity for the Blues as they look to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to 12 points.
"These are the games you want to play in, live on Sky, against big rivals, they get your juices going and you want to perform," he said.
"They have a great strikeforce but are having a bit of a tough time at the moment so it's an opportunity and being at home we must fancy ourselves to win the game."
