Chelsea defender Baba Rahman is on his way for a medical at Schalke, according to Sky in Germany.

Contract negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing, with Schalke hoping to land the player on an 18-month loan deal.

Rahman spent last season on loan with the Bundesliga club, making 13 appearances for Schalke as they finished 10th in Germany's top flight.

The Ghana international still has a house in Gelsenkirchen and Schalke head coach Dominico Tedesco believes it will be straightforward to secure the 23-year-old's signature once the two clubs reach an agreement.

"When we get the go-ahead from Chelsea, it won't take more than a minute to talk with Baba," said Tedesco.

Rahman signed for Chelsea in 2015 from FC Augsburg for a fee of in excess of £20m, playing 23 games during his short spell at Stamford Bridge.

The left-back could follow Kenedy out of west London with the Brazilian leaving Chelsea on Tuesday to join Newcastle on loan until the end of the season.
