Mourinho keen on Gallas stay

Jose Mourinho is hoping to persuade defender William Gallas to stay at Chelsea.

William Gallas' proposed move to Milan is far from certain, according to press reports in France.

The French defender wants to quit Chelsea in the summer after five years at the club and he has been strongly linked with a move to Milan.

Many believed the transfer of Andrei Shevchenko in the opposite direction would pave the way for Gallas to join the Italian giants but Chelsea are desperate to keep hold of the versatile defender.

With Shevchenko's move to Stamford Bridge now complete, it was expected that the two clubs would come to an agreement for the transfer of Gallas but Jose Mourinho remains adamant the 28-year-old is going nowhere.

Gallas has one year remaining on his contract with the Premiership champions and the Portuguese tactician is hoping to persuade him to extend his current deal beyond the end of next season.

The defender is reportedly looking for a lucrative five-year contract and Mourinho has urged the Chelsea board to give the player what he wants.
