Chelsea defender Gary Cahill says England team mate John Stones would be a great fit for the club should he join from Everton

Chelsea's Gary Cahill has no fears over the ability of new striker Radamel Falcao, despite his lacklustre spell at Manchester United last season.

The 29-year-old was on loan at Old Trafford but boss Louis van Gaal opted against making the move permanent after the Colombian scored just four goals in 26 Premier League appearances.

Cahill is delighted to see someone of Falcao's quality arrive at Stamford Bridge and told Sky Sports News HQ: "He is a top player. He is experienced and he has proved it.

"Last year, I'm sure he'd say it didn't go as well as he would have liked or would have planned. You don’t turn into a poor player overnight. He has done it at the top level and he is a top player.

"But this is an easy group to come into. We welcome everyone with open arms. The calibre of player is normally top drawer and he fits into that bracket. Hopefully he can hit the ground running for us and score lots of goals."

One player manager Jose Mourinho has yet to sign is Everton defender John Stones with Sky sources reporting the champions are set to increase their offer for the 21-year-old having had an initial bid of £20m rejected last week.

Cahill was full of praise for the young England star and feels he is another player who would fit in with the Chelsea set-up.

"Stones is a great player," Cahill added. "I’ve seen him in the Premier League, especially last season. I have seen him up close and personal and I’ve trained with him with England and he is a top young player.

"Of course, he is still young and of course he is still learning in many aspects, but in terms of potential he is fantastic.

"The manager, scouts and coaching staff make the decisions but he would be a great addition if it happened."
