Chelsea defender Gary Cahill believes Arsenal could mount a strong challenge for the Premier League title following their win over the Stamford Bridge side in the Community Shield.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s first-half goal was enough to give Arsene Wenger his first win over Jose Mourinho in 14 attempts.

While there has been focus on the fact the two managers didn’t shake hands afterwards because of Wenger’s belief Mourinho has no respect for him, Cahill has taken time to give Arsenal credit.

The England international feels Chelsea were the better team for much of the game at Wembley despite their 1-0 loss.

He acknowledged the fact Arsenal were still able to see out their victory, however, and expects a tough test this season from the side which finished third last term.

Cahill told chelseafc.com: “They've started well, they've got a good squad and I think they'll be one of many pushing at the top this season.

“Let's be fair, the game's been won on a piece of individual play to smash it in the top corner, but chance-wise we had the majority of the play.

“I think in terms of possession we had the majority of the game but it's the scoreline that matters and we're disappointed with that.”
