Daniel Sturridge will miss Liverpool's Capital One Cup tie with Bournemouth on Wednesday, Jurgen Klopp has revealed.

The England striker's knee injury means he is yet to feature under Klopp, and a first appearance will have to wait until the weekend at least.

The Liverpool manager, speaking at his pre-match press conference, said: "There's nothing new. Sturridge is getting better but not quick enough to change the situation for us tomorrow."

Sturridge is currently working in the gym, according to Klopp, who did not say whether he expects to have the player fit for Saturday's Premier League game at Chelsea.

Klopp did confirm he will make changes to the side for Wednesday's fifth-round game, with James Milner suspended and "a lot of games in the legs" of his regular starters.

But he dismissed suggestions the tournament is not a priority, saying: "It's the most important cup in the world because it's the game we have to play tomorrow."

"I'm surprised how big the steps we've taken are but everybody can see we want results," he said. "My faith in this team is really big and there is a good working atmosphere in this squad.

"These players have skills to make goals but in the decisive moments we don't make the right choices.

"We had results, not the most satisfying results in the world but we didn't have easy opponents: Tottenham away, not easy, Rubin Kazan, not easy and Southampton have lost no away games this season.

"I have no problems with this. I knew that when you're new in a club you have to accept that the way is hard. We don't have friendly games to get better."
