Alex Teixeira has revealed his frustration after Shakhtar Donetsk rejected a bid from Liverpool for the Brazilian.

Teixeira, 26, says he wants to join Liverpool in the current window and his agent is doing all he can to force the move through, but Sky sources understand Liverpool are unlikely to pay the £35m Shakhtar want

"The team received one official offer from Liverpool. It was rejected. I don't know why," Teixeira confirmed to US broadcaster NBC Sports.

"It was a great offer. It is frustrating. But the manager and the club president decided against it. So now I am just waiting, trying to be patient.

"Liverpool is a huge club. So many great players have passed through there. It would be an honour to defend the Liverpool shirt.

"I know my agent is still attempting everything possible to help me get to Liverpool. I've played with [Philippe] Coutinho since we were 10 years old. It would be a lot of fun to play with him again."

Liverpool have been keen to add more attacking prowess to their squad with Christian Benteke their only available striker in the absence of the injured Danny Ings, Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge.

Teixeira has scored 10 goals in the first part of Shakhtar's season, with the club currently undergoing winter-break training in the US, and he believes he can make an impact at Anfield.

"The way I play is looking to score. I could definitely add an attacking threat, especially if I'm paired with all of the talented players they already have in the squad," he said.

Jurgen Klopp said there was 'nothing to say' when asked about Liverpool signing Alex Teixeira from Shakhtar Donetsk in his press conference on Monday

"For me, the English Premier League is the best league in the world. I believe in myself, and I feel that would be the best move for my career.

"I've reached an age, 26 years old, in which I'm really looking to break into the Brazil team. The 2018 World Cup may be the last I have a chance to play in.

"So I want to go to a big club and show what I can do at the highest level, and hopefully be selected for Brazil."
