Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed his ongoing frustrations over Daniel Sturridge and admits he does not know when the striker will play again.

The 26-year-old England international has only played 106 minutes for Klopp since the former Borussia Dortmund boss succeeded Brendan Rodgers at Anfield, and is unable to feature in the FA Cup fourth-round clash with West Ham on Saturday or the Premier League tie at Leicester on Tuesday.

Klopp wants the striker to train without interruption before playing again but he continues to suffer setbacks in his rehabilitation.

Sturridge, who has started four games this season, has not featured since Liverpool's 2-0 defeat at Newcastle on December 6.

"He is still working. Sometimes it is better, sometimes it is a bit worse because of other issues. That is all," Klopp said.

"He has done a lot of sessions in the last few weeks but it is always interrupted with a few breaks. He needs consistency in the sessions and that's what we try to do.

"His injury history means this [slow progress] is normal. It is not coincidence. Some things are not right if you are injured that often. We have to be really sensitive with all the information we get. That is what we try to do. We're trying to find a point from which we can train and build up fitness.

"He could do a lot of sessions in the last few weeks, but they have always been interrupted with different issues where we always have to see and wait on what happens.

"There is no doubt that he is a very, very good player, but at this moment he is not available. We have to work, together with Daniel, on his fitness. I don't know what happens after Leicester to be honest."

Klopp will be grateful for the current form of Roberto Firmino, who has played as a lone striker in recent weeks because of the lack of attacking options.

The 24-year-old, who arrived at Anfield last June from German side Hoffenheim for £29m, has begun to shine after a slow start to his Reds career, scoring four goals in his last four games.
