Liverpool have asked Burnley to switch their Premier League fixture scheduled for August 20 to Turf Moor from Anfield, according to Sky sources.
The match will, however, go ahead at Anfield with full capacity if the Clarets reject the offer.
Construction work has been taking place on the Main Stand at Anfield and although the club are confident the renovations will be completed in time, a switch will give them additional time to sign off any final issues if required.
Liverpool had already requested an away fixture for their first match of the 2016/17 season due to the building work, and they will travel to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal on August 13 as a result.
The away fixture against Championship winners Burnley is scheduled for March 11.
