Anfield legend Phil Thompson insists Liverpool still need to tighten up at the back before being considered title contenders despite their impressive opening win at Arsenal.
After levelling just before the break, the Reds produced an emphatic 13 minutes as they scored three times to go 4-1 ahead, but nearly let their lead slip as Arsenal battled back to 4-3.
The visitors eventually held on but did little to silence suggestions they are too defensively vulnerable to maintain a title charge, having conceded 50 times last season.
Jurgen Klopp was forced to defend his left-back Alberto Moreno after the Spaniard was at fault for giving away a penalty and being out of position for Theo Walott's opener, with Gary Neville labeling him "absolute garbage".
Thommo said: "I don't think you can get carried away when your team defend like we did against Arsenal. I always fear defensive mistakes.
"Left-back is obviously an area that Liverpool are looking to strengthen because there was talk that if (James) Milner was fit he was going to start there. I think more Liverpool fans would like to see an out-an-out left-back to compete for the position.
"I did think that Klopp would go for Germany's Jonas Hector, who is first and foremost a good defender and also decent at getting forward, which is the way it should be.
"He has come out and supported Moreno, which he has to because you don't know when you need the player, but there's two weeks to go and you'd imagine he's still in the market.
"The biggest problem is his poor concentration, which result in rash decisions. There was one headed clearance and another right-footed clearance that went across his box. It's decision making in the vital areas."
The Gunners were missing their three most senior centre-backs on Sunday along with Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere, Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud and Thommo admits Liverpool faced them at a favourable time.
"Maybe Liverpool hit Arsenal at the right time," he added. "Arsene Wenger always wants his international players to get fully fit so that obviously helped.
"But to lose three goals is no good and you could see from our predictions in the Soccer Saturday studio that everybody was expecting goals with both teams having problems at the back."
