Steven Gerrard has confirmed he spoke to MK Dons about their vacant managerial position, but admits the role had come too soon for him to accept following his departure from LA Galaxy.

The former Liverpool and England captain is currently without a club after leaving the Galaxy at the end of the MLS season.

The 36-year-old had been linked with the job at Stadium mk, following Karl Robinson's dismissal in October.

And although Gerrard admits he spoke to the League One club about the vacancy, he says he is not yet ready to move into management.

"I spoke to them," Gerrard told BT Sport. "I had a chat with the chairman. It's a very exciting job for someone else.

"It's a bit soon for me. But it is true, I did speak to them."

Gerrard has also been reportedly linked with a return to Liverpool and a possible coaching role under Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is also rumoured to be interested in Gerrard's services, but the former England international is happy to take his time when deciding his future.

"I'm just taking a bit of time to consider what's next," he said. "Exciting times moving forward."
